from Rep. John Lesch:
I wrote this poem in midst of an hours-long debate on the house floor last session. Karen Clark and Mark Olson had a back-and-forth (that took forever) when Rep. Olson attempted an amendment to prohibit domestic partner benefits for state workers. Floor session started at noon. I wrote this around 2 a.m.

No Promo Homo

This August body has my attention

when policy directs convention.

We roil and shout on themes complex

but waste our breath to parse gay sex.

Until such time we terminate

The restless up here ruminate

On where for breakfast we shall bite

As no one’s leaving here tonight!

So willingly I fortune ride

On duty wrought for tougher hide

And listen for the dinner bell

For more than hunger pangs to quell.

My steeds are never out of breath:

Pest’lence, Famine, War and Death

From Revelation all will ride

If this amendment has not died.
